CLEVELAND - Dangerous summer heat swelled temperatures into the upper 90s and lower 100s across much of Ohio on Wednesday.
Defiance in northwest Ohio reported the hottest temperature late this afternoon with 107 degrees.
Toledo set a new record high of 103 degrees before the heat index, or the way it really feels, was factored in at Toledo Express Airport. The airport's old record was 101 degrees in 1934.
In Cleveland, the area felt a little cooler according to the National Weather Service. They say the temperature hit 97 degrees at 5:29 p.m. at Cleveland Hopkins International.
"It sure was hot, but we weren't even close to our record high today," says WKYC Meteorologist Betsy Kling. That record is 101 degrees set in 1944.
"You'd have to go back to July 21, 2011, to see temperatures this hot," Kling added. The all time record high in Cleveland was 104 degrees set on June 25, 1988.

- Ashtabula: 95 degrees
- Cleveland Hopkins: 97 degrees
- Cleveland Burke: 90 degrees
- Defiance: 107 degrees
- Findlay: 103 degrees
- Lima: 105 degrees
- Lorain/Elyria: 96 degrees
- Mansfield: 98 degrees
- Youngstown: 94 degrees
- Wooster: 94 degrees
Kling says more heat is on the way over the next 10 days, although she says it won't be as warm as Thursday. Probably.
