VERMILION -- Four people, including a 4-year-old child, were rescued from a sinking boat Sunday morning.
Police received a call at 9:23 a.m. to respond to distressed boaters who were about a mile north of the Vermilion River in a boat that was taking on water. A rescue team, a mix of ODNR and Vermilion officers, were dispatched to the scene.
While enroute, a second call was received saying the boat was taking water on very quickly.
Just 10 minutes after receiving the initial call, the Vermilion Police boat arrived at the scene to find three men and a 4-year-old boy on the top deck of a 16-foot Glastron. The rest of the boat was swamped.
The rescue team was able to get the four people off the boat and to safety.
A salvage company was called in to tow the sinking vessel.
