ELYRIA -- An Elyria mother is charged with two counts of child endangerment after police say she left her 3-year-old daughter and another 2-month-old home alone while she drank at a bar down the street.
Neighbor Melissa Conley tells Channel 3 she and her husband heard a child crying for nearly an hour during Sunday night's thunderstorm.
When they looked outside, they saw a 3-year-old standing on her outside balcony alone, wearing just a T-shirt. Conley says they called police when they realized no one was letting the child inside.
According to the police report, when officers arrived at the apartment and knocked on the door, no one answered.
Members of the Elyria Fire Department entered to find both the 3-year-old on the balcony and a two-month-old wrapped in blankets on a bed by herself.
Officers say the room was extremely hot and the baby was "sweating profusely."
While officers were there, the mother of the toddler and aunt of the infant, Resha Logan, came running through the apartment complex parking lot.
She told police she had only been gone for 5 minutes, but after further questioning, she admitted she had gone up to Ely's Inn for "one shot and one beer."
Logan also told officers her nephew was supposed to be watching the children.
Logan was charged with two counts of child endangerment and the children were taken into custody by Lorain County Child Services.
