NORTHEAST OHIO -- Swimming advisories are in effect for several local beaches on the Fourth of July from Ashtabula County to Ottawa County.

Levels of e.coli bacteria are high and the water quality is poor.

If a beach has a water advisory posting, it means the level of bad bacteria in the water has reached unsafe levels and could make you sick

Advisories mean children, the elderly and those in ill health or weakened immune systems are advised not to swim.

In addition, the Ohio Department of Health has issued "red flag" advisories for 23 beaches along Lake Erie.

ODH 'red flag' advisory list warns beachgoers of poor conditions and health risks.
