CLEVELAND -- Three local bishops concelebrated a noon Mass July 4 at the end of the "Fortnight for Freedom" effort
Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon, along with Bishop John Kudrick of the Byzantine Catholic Diocese of Parma, and Bishop John Bura of the Ukrainian Byzantine Diocese of St. Josaphat in Parma offered a special Mass as part of the U.S. Bishops "Fortnight for Freedom" effort to pray and act to defend religious liberty in the United States.
The Catholic Bishops of the United States asked all dioceses and parishes to participate in the "Fortnight for Freedom" which ended on the 4th of July.
The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision to uphold the federal government healthcare mandate makes this effort of critical importance.
The government's mandate requires employers to pay for healthcare coverage which violates the beliefs of a particular faith.
The government is requiring that Catholic Institutions pay for abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraception.
