EASTLAKE - A mom will spend 20 days in jail for driving drunk with her children, ages 3 and 5, in the car.
A judge sentenced Mindy Sotak on Tuesday afternoon to 180 days in jail but suspended 60 of those days. Sotak may be able to avoid the remaining 100 days of jail time altogether if she follows court orders including one-year of probation and seeking alcohol treatment. Sotak has also been ordered to wear an electronic anklet that monitors for alcohol intake.
Police arrested Sotak on May 19 after she hit another car while leaving a Walmart. It was her second alcohol related incident involving police in less than a month. Last month, Sotak pleaded guilty to OVI and one count of child endangering in connection with the Walmart incident. Prosecutors dropped the charges in the other incident as part of the deal.
Sotak must report to jail on July 17.
The judge also suspended her license for six months. Sotak has also been ordered to pay fines and court costs totaling more than $700.
