SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP -- A grandmother struck her 4-year-old granddaughter with her van in a driveway accident in Springfield Township Wednesday night.
Police say the grandmother, 70, was backing out of a Canton Road driveway at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday when her 4-year-old granddaughter came out of the house.
The grandmother stopped the minivan and opened her driver's door to say goodbye to her granddaughter. She then continued moving in reverse and it appears that the open door struck the child investigators say.
The van continued backing into the yard, striking some trees.
The grandmother was taken to Akron City Hospital with minor injuries.
The granddaughter was taken to Akron Children's Hospital and is in stable condition.
No charges have been filed.
