INDEPENDENCE - The Cleveland Water Department says a series of breaks have been located in a water line along Brecksville Road.

The department says its not unusual to have water main breaks every day, especially in a system that has thousands of miles of underground pipes--some more than a century old.  What is unusual is having three breaks in the same area.

Of biggest concern to the department, a 24-inch pipe that failed that is only 26-year-old.  Corrosion is expected to have been the problem but officials are still investigating.

As a result of the breaks, Chestnut Road is closed between Brecksville Road and Ashwood and Brookside Road is closed between Brecksville Road and Dania Drive.

About a dozen homes are without water as a result.

One northbound and two southbound lanes are open on Brecksville Road.
