ALLIANCE -- Woman who turned 84 Thursday attacked and robbed during morning walk.
Alliance Police tell Channel 3 News that a woman out for her morning stroll on S. Mahoning Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday morning was attacked and robbed.
The suspect shoved the woman's face down onto the sidewalk, took her purse, and then ran from the scene.
The woman, who was celebrating her 84th birthday Thursday, was found by a passing motorist.
The woman is being treated at Alliance Community Hospital for multiple broken bones, contusions and bruising. Her main concern was getting her rosary back.
Police and detectives canvassed the area, acted on information received, and located the robbery suspect just before 1 p.m. in the area of S. Arch Avenue and E. Cambridge Street.
Mark A. Patrick, 21, of Alliance was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for breaking and entering from a separate incident.
Patrick at first denied any involvement in the woman's attack but eventually confessed to the crime leading officers to the wooded area where the stolen purse was discarded.
The cash which had been in the purse was found on Patrick.
Mark Patrick has been charged with aggravated robbery and breaking and entering. He is at the Stark County Jail being held on $50,000 bond and will be arraigned Friday.
After the arrest, the officers visited the victim at the hospital and returned her rosary to her.
