WKYC's Jim Donovan, the radio voice of the Browns, has confirmed the team is for sale. According to a statement from owner Randy Lerner, the Browns are in talks with Tennessee businessman, Jim Haslam III.
Channel 3's Dick Russ says reaction from Browns fans as news of the sale broke has been mixed. While visiting the studios of ESPN 850 WKNR, callers were mostly enthusiatic about a sale to Haslam, but an online poll found about a 50-50 split.
Here's a sample of fans' reaction to the potential sale of the Cleveland Browns:
"I think you need an ownership who can sit there, and especially with Holmgren and Tom Heckert, and put his two cents in. Let's go in this direction or that direction, how can the team get better."
"Ownership was the thing that needed to be changed the whole time. I totally agree with this."
"I'm worried about selling the team to someone who's not a Clevelander, not an Ohioan who understands who we are."
"Does this guy see a good future with the Browns, and is he willing to invest in something he sees with a positive outcome here soon?"
"I think it's a great move. I wasn't sold at the beginning but when I heard this guy was a sports guy, I think from an ownership standpoint that is what this team has been missing."
