MANSFIELD -- President Barack Obama came to Mansfield seeking votes. But his visit was largely overshadowed by a controversy over an ongoing crusade to save Mansfield's National Air Guard base.
On Tuesday, when a White House spokesman was not aware the Pentagon plans to shut down the National Guard unit there, it caused a stir.
Mitt Romney's campaign demanded answers about the air base's future. The White House later said it was seeking to find a new mission to keep the base open.
The President did not mention the fate or future of the base in his remarks.
