Signs have been posted at the Medina County Fairgrounds asking visitors not to touch the pigs. The signs come after 10 people became ill at the Butler County Fair.
Preliminary tests show those who became ill had a type of flu similar to (H3N2)v. The H3N2 strain is a type that's transmittable between people and swine.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, the symptoms which, described as flu-like, were not severe. No one who was infected was hospitalized.
Officials say the "contained outbreak" seems to be an isolated incident. Even still, additional precautions are being taken by other local fairs.
In addition to posted signs, veterinarians at the fair are keeping a close eye on the animals.
If anything, the Butler County incident is a good reminder for people to wash their hands after coming into contact with animals.
Visitors should also refrain from bringing food and drinks in animal exhibits. People are also being reminded to stay home if you aren't feeling well.
