The sale of the Cleveland Browns to Jimmy Haslam III for more than $1 billion will go into the history books as one of the most expensive team sales in history, in any sport.
According to Forbes, only three sales have been worth more.
Those sales include the 2012 sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers to an ownership group including Magic Johnson for $2 billion and the 2005 sale of Manchester United for $1.47 billion.
Al Lerner purchased the expansion Browns for $530 million in 1998 after Art Modell moved the original team to Baltimore. Modell bought the Browns for $4 million in 1961.
Depending on the final price tag of the deal, the Browns could become the most expensive deal in NFL history to date. Here's a look at three of the biggest NFL team sales from Forbes, excluding the current deal involving the Browns.
- Miami Dolphins
Purchase Price: $1.1 billion
- Jacksonville Jaguars
Purchase Price: $770 million
- Washington Redskins
