SOLON -- Police reopened Solon Road, between Richmond Road and Hawthorn Parkway, at 2:50 p.m. Thursday after a motorcyclist struck a runner in the Cleveland Metroparks South Chagrin Reservation about 8:52 a.m. Thursday morning.
Police say a 14-year-old girl was running on the Cleveland Metropark's multi-purpose trail southbound with her mother and ran into the path of a westbound motorcycle driven by Jason Hicks, 23, of Bedford.
Police say the motorcycle struck the girl and then lost control, striking the guardrail on the south side of Solon Road.
The girl was taken to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights and the motorcyclist was taken to Bedford Hospital, both by Solon Fire and Rescue.
Their conditions are not known at this time.
The Southeast Area Law Enforcement's Accident Investigation Unit was called to assist Solon police and the accident remains under investigation.
Solon Road was closed from 9 a.m. until 2:50 p.m. in the area of the accident.
Sources and other media outlets are reporting that the girl is an incoming freshman cross-country runner at Nordonia High School but police did not confirm this nor identify her.
