CLEVELAND -- Cleveland and Cuyahoga County leaders were introduced by phone to new Browns owner Jimmy Haslam III Friday morning.

For what it's worth, Clevelanders, even those whose names you know, seem pretty excited about the changes at the Cleveland Browns.

After hearing from Jimmy Haslam for the first time in an afternoon press conference, fans on Facebook and Twitter seem encouraged that he's committed to keep the Browns right here in Northeast Ohio, and making them a powerhouse team with whatever it takes.

Mayor Frank Jackson says while he didn't have many concerns last week because of the stadium and city's legal standing, he's encouraged to hear Haslam commit to Cleveland.

And, like those who know him in Knoxville have told us, Mayor Jackson and Cuyahoga County Executive Ed Fitzgerald tell me Haslam wants to get involved in the community's civic interests as well.

Haslam's Cavs counterpart, Dan Gilbert, tweeted this afternoon: "Welcome J. Haslam to Cleveland as @officialbrowns new owner. You will not find a more loyal and passionate fan base anywhere. Stay close to them."

It's advice that fans seem to love as that tweet has been retweeted about 700 times and favorited at least 100 times.

Some of Cleveland's most well-known voices are weighing in on Jimmy Haslam and a new beginning for the Browns.

And What do fans want to see? Quality on the field, says Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald. FitzGerald says, "...attendance at the games is important because it helps drive business downtown. It's a huge asset that we have. It's a billion dollar asset that we have and it's sort of what brands Cleveland as the city as it is."

"It's important that we have an owner that's active and engaged and also has the funds available to support a winning team on the field."

We think the Haslam family does and they certainly seem very motivated to do that.

Cleveland is a sports town, it's a Browns town. And people love football here and they want a winner.
