GROTON TOWNSHIP -- A woman has died after crashing her vehicle near railroad tracks Friday evening.
The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that the single vehicle crash occurred Friday evening around 6:20 p.m. in Erie County on Strecker Road near Billings Road.
The driver, an 81-year-old woman from Sandusky, was driving eastbound on Strecker Road and drove off the left side of the road where she struck a small post and railroad ties. She then struck the railroad tracks and went airborn. The vehicle came to a rest in a nearby cornfield.
The woman was taken to Cleveland Metro Health where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The accident is under investigation.
