EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio -- East Cleveland fire officials are calling an overnight fire at an abandoned apartment building suspicious.

Firefighters from at least two cities battled flames that engulfed the building shortly after 1 a.m. on Wymore Avenue, just south of Euclid Avenue.

The building has been abandoned for an extended period of time and no utilities were on in the building, leading officials to suspect outside causes to the fire.

This is the second fire on this street in the last two weeks.

Flames spread from the rear of the building to eventually engulf the entire structure.

Heavy smoke was hanging throughout the neighborhood.

Emergency crews have closed Euclid Avenue from Lee Boulevard to Rosemont Road.

No injuries have been reported.

East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton says that abandoned buildings pose a risk not only to East Cleveland, but to all of Northeast Ohio.
