SOLON -- Police say they arrested a Solon man after he crashed into a tree at a high rate of speed at the corner of Liberty and Aurora road.

According to the police report, police received multiple calls about a car crash just after 9 p.m. Friday night.

When police arrived, they found a woman, 42, and her five-year-old twin boys "running through front yards on Aurora road near Portz Parkway."

She told police she was "involved in a crash but it was OK because everyone was fine."

That's when her husband, Joseph Shaner, arrived on the scene after walking from the crash, police said.

He told police he was having problems with the transmission on his car and it caused him to crash.

Asked if he had been drinking, Shaner said he had a couple beers earlier.

Shaner was asked to perform field sobriety tests and did not pass. He was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to maintain reasonable control of a vehicle and child endangering.

At the police station, he agreed to a Breathalyzer test and the result showed a blood alcohol level of .219, almost three times the .08 legal limit.

He posted bond Monday and is scheduled to be back in Bedford Municipal Court at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 21.
