LYNDHURST -- The man behind the holiday tradition, "Eggshelland" has passed away.

Ron Manolio died Tuesday.

He created "Eggshelland" in 1957.

The display, built entirely of egg shells, had a theme each year. Visitors by the hundreds would drive past the display at 1031 Linden Lane in Lyndhurst to see it each year.

Manolio and his wife, Betty, started Eggshelland with only 750 shells. At the time of the 2012 display, they had more than 38,000.

You can watch the videos of archival WKYC stories done at Eggshelland.

Manolio also worked for many years as a broadcast engineer at WKYC-Channel 3.

Calling hours will be held at the Vicchiarelli Funeral Home, 5252 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst  on Friday, August 10 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on August 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 a.m. in Gates Mills.
