ELYRIA -- An escaped inmate from the Lorain/Medina Community Based Correctional Facility was caught late Thursday after allegedly robbing the Fifth Third Bank on Broad Street in Elyria.

Police say Bryan Long, 26, of Columbia Station, who escaped Monday from the facility, was charged with robbery and obstructing official business and is being held at the Lorain County Jail without bond pending his arraignment in Elyria Municipal Court.

At about 2 p.m.Thursday, Elyria police responded to the bank robbery at the Fifth Third Bank at 281 Broad Street.

Employees said the robbery suspect had given a note to a teller, but did not show any weapons. Long can be seen on surveillance images taking a lollipop from a candy basket while he waited for the teller.

After he took the money, Long ran out and headed for the railroad tracks behind the bank. Police spotted Long near East Bridge Street by the Black River and chased him west along the river until he was caught and the money was recovered.

Long and Brandon Bokar, 18, of Brunswick, had escaped from the facility Monday while taking out trash.
