Corn prices are now expected to climb more than 60 percent, as the drought continues to take its toll on our nation's crops. According to the United Nation's Food Price Index, the price of cereal soared 17 percent last month. Soybean crops affected by the drought will mean margarine and peanut butter will be more pricey.
There could be new rules to protect homeowners working with mortgage servicing companies. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau wants clearer statements which break down mortgage payments and early warnings on interest rate hikes. There's also a proposed requirement to credit payments promptly and correct errors quickly.
Sliced apples in Happy Meals and other fast food and grocery chains are being recalled due to possible listeria contamination. No illnesses have been reported but listeria was found on equipment used in production. The apple slices are distributed by Ready Pac Foods. Recalled products have use-by dates of July 8 through Aug. 20. Missa Bay announced the voluntary recall on Friday, saying the food went to 36 states and the District of Columbia.
