CLEVELAD - A dog was shot and killed Sunday by a police officer.
The officer was patrolling the area of East 140th and Rugby Avenue when he witnessed a Rottweiler attacking a smaller dog.
The owner of the dog was on scene but could not get the animal under control.
The officer then shot and killed the dog.
A female bystander was struck with a ricochet or debris from the discharge. She was treated for a superficial wound to the back of the head.
The smaller dog was taken to an animal clinic.
The incident remains under investigation.
