CLEVELAND -- One of the original K-9 officers assigned to the RTA has passed away.

The RTA says, Kantor, died of complications from cancer. The dog had been the partner of his handler, Sgt. John Gates, for the past 8 years.

Kantor was one of RTA's original K-9s and worked to help detect explosives on RTA property.

A memorial service will be held on August 14 at 10 a.m. at the Paws Awhile Pet Memorial Park (3246 Brush Road) in Richfield.

Besides explosive detection, Kantor worked on patrol and could be used in human tracking and apprehension.
