Summerfield has been on the run for over a month. He is accused of killing estranged girlfriend Lynn Jackenheimer during a vacation in the Outer Banks in early July.

Channel 3 News has learned that U.S. Marshals captured Summerfield just 20 minutes from his Ashland home and not far from where he worked.  It is not known if Summerfield traveled anywhere in between the time of Jackenheimer's murder and his arrest.

Police began searching for Jackenheimer after Summerfield returned home without her.  He dropped off her two children and then disappeared.

Officers say statements Summerfield made to family members indicated Jackenheimer had been murdered.
