Akron: Weekend road work will slow traffic

AKRON -- Travel in the Akron area could be slow throughout the weekend due to road resurfacing and repairs in multiple spots.

According to ODOT, the following closures and restrictions will be in place from 7 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday:

- Route 8 South will be reduced to one lane for resurfacing between Howe Avenue and E. North Street.

- The Glenwood Avenue entrance ramp to Route 8 South will be closed for bridge repairs. The suggested detour is Gorge Boulevard to Cuyahoga Falls Avenue to Route 8 South.

- The Howe Avenue entrance ramp to Route 8 South will be closed for repairs. The suggested detour is Cuyahoga Falls Avenue to Route 8 South.

- The Tallmadge Avenue bridge over Route 8 will be closed for repairs. The suggested detour for eastbound drivers is Route 8 South to Route 59/Perkins Street to Route 8 North. The suggested detour for westbound drivers is Gorge Boulevard to Cuyahoga Falls Avenue to Route 8 South.

Also closing this weekend is the I-77 South exit ramp to US 224 East. This closure, which was canceled from last weekend due to weather, goes in effect at 6 p.m. Friday and lasts through 6 a.m. Monday. There will also be various lane restrictions on I-77 South under US 224.

ODOT says the closure, which will also happening the following weekend (Aug. 24-27), is needed so crews can make bridge repairs. The suggested detour is I-77 South to Arlington Road to I-77 North.
