AKRON -- Police are investigating a slew of crimes that took place throughout the weekend, including robberies, a shooting and the vandalism of more than 30 vehicles.
The first crime occurred around 5 p.m. Friday when police say a 20-year-old man walking near the intersection of Crouse Street at Forrest was assaulted and robbed.
The victim said he was walking to the barbershop when he was approached from behind by two suspects. According to police, one suspect choked the victim while the other punched him in the face.
When the victim fell to the ground, the suspects kicked him and demanded money. The victim reached into his pocket and threw approximately $70 on the ground, which the suspects grabbed and ran off.
Police arrested two men -- Julian Wing, 20, and Azontie Christina, 19 -- in connection with the robbery a short time later near the intersection of East Exchange Street and Excelsior Avenue. Both have been booked into the Summit County Jail.
The victim was taken to Akron City Hospital with reportedly minor injuries.
The next incident happened around 3 a.m. Sunday as police say three people were robbed while getting into their parked cars near Kenmore Boulevard and 15th Street SW.
Akron Police say the suspects approached and asked the victims if they needed help. After the victims said no, the suspects allegedly pulled out handguns and robbed the victims of their belongings.
While searching the area for the suspects, officers say they located them near 17th Street SW and Idaho Avenue. Officers arrested Damion Davis, 23, and Demetrius Richardson, 20. Both have been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and booked into the Summit County Jail.
Police say they also recovered two handguns and the items taken during the robbery.
More than 30 cars were vandalized at the Dave Walters VW in the 400 block of West Exchange Street. Akron Police say vehicles were spraypainted, windows were broken and several hoods/roofs were damaged.
The vandalism was found around 5 a.m. Sunday by an employee.
Finally, around 9 p.m. Sunday night, a 28-year-old man says he was shot in the leg by an unknown person while walking near the intersection of Wasbhurn Street and Longview Avenue.
