AKRON -- Latino families in the Akron Latino community protested in Charles Goodyear Park Thursday afternoon against aggressive immigration enforcement tactics and and record-breaking deportations.
They urged elected officials to make immigration reform a priority in the Akron area.
The families said that last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents raided five Mexican restaurants in the Akron area, taking more than 30 low-wage workers into custody, including dishwashers, waitresses and cooks.
Many of the families and workers from the raid spoke out at the protest. They said they were opposed to the massive number of deportations and that officials were separating Latino children from their parents.
