PAINESVILLE -- Police say a man at the center of a standoff at an apartment building this morning died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police were called to the Kensington Apartments to contact the 28-year-old man in connection with a domestic violence and kidnapping complaint.
The man answered police from the upstairs of the apartment. Officers then heard a loud popping noise which they suspected to be a gunshot.
Officers secured the apartment and advised the building's residents to leave.
Lake County's SWAT team was called in when the man refused repeated demands to surrender.
Police later found the man deceased in an upstairs bedroom.
There was no one else in the apartment with him.
