MEDINA -- A registered sex offender was arrested Friday by police after allegedly having sexual contact with a 14 year old Medina girl.
The man, a registered sex offender in Summit County, was already on probation for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
David A. Covan, 21 of Akron, was charged on an arrest warrant issued by the Medina Police with gross sexual imposition.
Covan was taken into custody without incident at Oriana House by Akron Police.
Covan is currently housed in the Medina County Jail and is scheduled for his initial appearance on the charges before Judge Dale Chase in Medina Municipal Court today.
"We will protect our children. The cooperation between agencies made this case possible," said Police Chief Patrick Berarducci."I personally commended the Akron Police Department and the Summit County Probation Department for their assistance in the investigation."
Medina Police received information from Summit County Probation officials, who asked for assistance identifying the 14 year old. Detectives are continuing to investigate and additional charges are anticipated when the case is presented to the Medina County Grand Jury later this month.
