BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- About 20 people escaped a house fire in Beachwood overnight Thursday.

The fire started at about 11 p.m. Wednesday on Edgewood Drive, crews at the scene said.

They said the flames began in the middle of the home and spread to the roof. When crews arrived, they said the flames were shooting from the roof.

All of the people inside the home were able to get out safely. Crews said most of the damage is contained to the second floor. The cause of the fire is not known.

It took crews about two hours to get all of the flames under control. Crews from four fire departments assisted in getting the fire under control.

Donations are being accepted to help the family including food, diapers, baby wipes, clothing for both adults and children (no shoes), and money.

A neighbor has also established a fund to help the Gaines family at any Key Bank.

To donate items, call  216-370-2838 or drop them at 2550 Edgewood Road.

The Beachwood PTO is also coordinating donations for the family as well.
