Cleveland, OH -- Justin Verlander pitched seven shutout innings and the Detroit Tigers scored early to take a 4-0 win over Cleveland Indians in the opener of a three-game set.
Detroit could find itself tied for the top spot in the AL Central as the team is now just a half-game back of the Chicago White Sox, which is currently playing in Minnesota.
Verlander (14-8) scattered six hits and a walk while striking out six for the win. Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera each scored once and drove in a run for the Tigers, who have won three straight.
Lonnie Chisenhall had two of the six hits for the Indians, who have lost six of seven. Corey Kluber (1-4) gave up four runs on eight hits in five innings to take the loss.
