CANAAN TOWNSHIP -- One person is dead and 7 others have been injured in a head-on crash in Wayne County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident happened near Pleasant Home Road and State Route 3. They received the call at 7:00 p.m.
Out of the 7 injured, 3 are in critical condition.
A silver Chevy Trailblazer driven by Thomas Lockard Jr., 44, was headed north on State Route 3 when it crashed into a red Pontiac Sunfire that was headed west on Pleasant Home Road.
With Lockard, was his wife Kim and their three children ages seven, nine and twelve.
Lockard his wife and two children were taken to Wooster Hospital. One child was taken by MedFlight to Akron Children's Hospital.
Deputies say Melvin Romanchik, 36, was driving in the Pontiac Sunfire when he failed to stop at a stop sign on State Route 3. In the car with him was Melvin Perry Jr. 59 and Romanchik's 5-year-old son.
Romanchik collided with Lockard causing Lockard's to spin and roll over. Romanchik's car spined around but because of the violent impact he passed away at the scene. His son was taken by MedFlight to Akron Children's Hospital.
Perry, who was not wearing a seatbelt was taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center.
The events that led up to the accident is still under investigation.
This is the tenth fatal crash in Wayne County since the beginning of 2012.
