PARMA -- A Parma mother charged after her 3-year-old son was found wandering alone in the rain on a street faced a magistrate this morning.
Amanda Aleman, 24, pleaded no contest to a charge of child endangering and failure to appear on an unrelated seatbelt violation.
The magistrate sentenced her to 180 days in jail, then suspended 178 of those days and gave Aleman credit for two days served. Aleman must pay a $250 fine and will be on probation for twelve months.
A motorist found Aleman's son just before 7 a.m. on Tuesday near West 44th and Grantwood. The child was barefoot and soaked from the rain but otherwise was not hurt. The location was nearly half a mile from his house.
Police had the boy in their custody for several hours before a neighbor recognized the child's picture on television and contacted them. Police then went to the child's home and took Aleman into custody.
