Canton: Teenage couple denies killing newborn

CANTON -- A teenage couple facing felony charges in the death of their newborn son both were released to their families today after denying the charges in Stark County Family Court Monday afternoon.

Charges were filed against a girl and a boy, both 17, from Alliance.

They appeared before Court Magistrate Sally Efremoff.

She is charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering children while he faces charges of complicity to commit child endangering and with complicity to commit involuntary manslaughter.

He entered plea of "not true." He was released to his parents on the condition that he attends an online school and doesn't leave his home.

Both have a pre-trial hearing Friday at 9 a.m.

Proscutors say the infant died after being born at their home July 8.

The baby is is said to have died as a result of inadequate care following its birth.

They could ultimately face charges as adults.
