EASTLAKE -- A part-time Willoughby police officer who died in the line of duty has been laid to rest.
Family, friends and hundreds of fellow police officers attended services for Officer Jason Gresko at Monreal Funeral Home in Eastlake this morning. Fellow officers then escorted the hearse carrying Gresko's body to a private burial.
Gresko, 32, died of injuries suffered in a Sep. 21 crash.
Officer Gresko was responding to a call when a pick-up truck turned in front of him on Harmony Lane in Willoughby. The police cruiser then collided with a tree. The driver of the pick-up was not hurt.
Officer Gresko leaves behind a wife and two-year-old daughter.
The Jason Gresko Memorial Fund has been established to help his family. Contributions can be made to the Western Lake County F.O.P. in care of Officer Jason Gresko at any local Huntington Bank.
In addition to working in Willoughby, Gresko worked full-time with the Cleveland Clinic police.
