COSHOCTON-- A Coshocton mother is grieving the loss of her 8-week-old son. She believes her baby boy was killed at the hands of his father.
Her boyfriend, 23-year-old Corey Lafferty, was watching the infant Thursday night. Santos received a call at work that their son, Raven Lafferty, was at the hospital.
"They told me that my son was in the hospital, that he fell out of his swing and he's in really bad shape," said Santos.
Raven was taken to Akron Children's Hospital for treatment. He died a day later.
Santos says Raven's doctor said "that's the worst CAT scan [he's] ever seen on an infant." According to Santos, her boyfriend was silent at the hospital and showed no emotion.
Lafferty was arrested and charged with felonious assault, a charge likely to be upgraded after the information is obtained from the Medical Examiner's report.
The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled Raven's death a homicide. The investigation concluded that baby Raven died from traumatic injuries.
Santos believes her boyfriend, who is also the father of their 2-year-old daughter, got frustrated and shook the baby. Santos has a message to parents of infants who find themselves overwhelmed.
"Just set them down. Call somebody, go to a neighbor's house. Don't shake them, hit them, don't do anything because you're going to regret it... you'll never have your baby by your side anymore," said Santos.
Lafferty is being held on $250,000 bond.
