CLEVELAND -- Cleveland police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on the west side.
The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Tuesday at West 97th Street and Lorain Avenue.
Police say a man called police and when they arrived, he had his hands in his jacket. Then he charged police with a wrench in his hand and officers shot him "in the lower extremities" they said.
Family members identified the suspect as 47 year-old Roy Rudisill. His sister told Channel 3 News he was shot two or three times, in the right arm and left leg. She said he would recover, but need surgery Wednesday.
Rudisill's family said he suffered a mental break about two weeks ago after getting out of prison. Family members said he was in prison for assault. After getting out of prison, his sister said he began to contemplate suicide.
Rudisill was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.
