CLEVELAND -- The often balky Cleveland weather cooperated Thursday so that volunteers could help a Navy veteran with repairs and painting of the home he shares with his brother.

More than 40 volunteers from the Cleveland Clinic and Rebuilding Together Cleveland teamed up to paint and provide home repairs for a deserving senior homeowner and his older brother in Cleveland's Fairfax neighborhood.

Rebuilding Together Cleveland is a nonprofit affiliate of a nationwide, volunteer organization dedicated to providing free painting and home repairs to low-income homeowners -- particularly the elderly, disabled, members of the military, veterans and families with children.

Built in 1915, the two-story, wood framed home is owned by a 75-year-old senior who is a veteran of the United States Navy. He has lived in his Fairfax neighborhood home with his 83-year-old brother for close to 30 years.

Because of their ages and health issues, both brothers have been unable work in the yard or keep up with badly needed home repairs.

So volunteers scraped and painted the outside of this home.

In addition, volunteers worked on removing overgrown shrubs, weeds and tree limbs from the back yard.

In both the front and backyards, flower beds were installed and landscaping completed. The garden had some fall annuals planted and tulip bulbs that will bring color to the garden in the spring.
