AKRON -- Mayor Don Plusquellic announced Saturday that the Akron Aeros have been sold to a Maryland businessman. He also says they've agreed to a lease that will keep the team in Akron for at least 25 years.

The team's new owner Ken Babby, 32, and his company, Akron Baseball LLC, have agreed to a 25-year lease with a five year lease extension option.

Along with keeping the team in Akron, Babby intends to make improvements to the stadium, which is why a long-term lease was necessary.

Improvements include a new scoreboard, left-field seating, food areas, and party areas. They are expected to be made over time.

According to a city-issued press release, the long-term lease is beneficial to Akron as well.

"We all want to make the stadium come alive again," said Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic. "Akron residents and our neighboring communities will be able to enjoy baseball in Akron for a long time to come."
