CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Two Ohio libraries are honoring the late comic book writer Harvey Pekar of the "American Splendor" series with a sculpture at one and a likeness of him on the other library's cards.

A bronze sculpture including a statue of Pekar on a comic panel mounted on a wooden desk was unveiled Sunday at the main branch of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library system in suburban Cleveland where Pekar did research.

He also spent time at the Cleveland Public Library. That library on Monday will offer library cards imprinted with a drawing featuring Pekar.

Pekar's comic books and graphic novels portrayed the lives of ordinary people and chronicled his own life. He appeared on TV with David Letterman, and "American Splendor" was made into a film starring Paul Giammati.
