CLEVELAND -- High winds moving through the area overnight have caused power outages affecting thousands throughout Northeast Ohio.

Cleveland Heights and Akron were among the hardest hit earliest on, combining for at least 4,100 outages -- including at least 2,700 in Akron.

Since then, Akron power was restored, but Cleveland Heights is still dealing with more than 1,400 outages.

Hinckley Township also had about 300 reported outages overnight, but that issue has since been resolved.

Independence, Seven Hills, Strongsville and North Royalton had several hundred outages throughout the night, including about 1,500 outages in Seven Hills at one point, but power was laregely restored in these cities before sunrise.

FirstEnergy is attributing these outages to high winds knocking down power lines.

Crews have been dispatched to each report of damage as they receive them throughout the night.

There is no timetable for when power will be restored to each area impacted.
