CLEVELAND -- The search is on for the driver of a white sport utility vehicle that struck two people near the Galleria downtown and then drove off.

Earlier reports had indicated three victims.

According to police, the SUV was northbound on East 9th Street when it hit a vehicle at the intersection of St. Clair. The SUV then drove onto the sidewalk, hitting two pedestrians before fleeing the scene.

The SUV was last seen heading north on East 9th and then headed east on I-90.

According to witnesses, the driver of the SUV was a woman and the vehicle was a white, 2011 KIA Sorento.

WKYC learned late Monday that the witnesses who followed the car until it reached high speeds got the license plate and gave that to police.

Cleveland police said the Kia is registered to a Lyndhurst woman. When WKYC went to her home, she said her Kia was in a shop on St. Clair for detailing and that she had not been in possession of the Kia.

Anyone with information on the SUV should contact police.
