BEREA, Ohio -- Browns coach Pat Shurmur defended his decision to punt on 4th-and-1 in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to Indianapolis, a choice that didn't seem to sit well with new Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam.

With the Browns needing one yard at the Colts' 41 with 6:38 left and trailing 17-13, Shurmur elected to punt. Television cameras caught Haslam, watching from a suite, fold his legs and frown with a look of disapproval.

Shurmur said he was not aware of Haslam's reaction and that he has shared text messages with the truck-stop magnate, who took control of Cleveland's franchise last week. Shurmur said he chose to punt because there was plenty of time left.

The Browns got the ball back but couldn't convert on a 4th-and-6 and lost their 11th straight road game.
