MENTOR -- Police are investigating a report of tainted candy  received by a child during trick-or-treat on Sunday evening.

A woman checking her child's candy found a box of Wonka Grape Nerds that was half-filled with staples instead of candy. The box had been tampered with and the top re-glued shut.

The woman says her child was trick-or-treating in the Headlands area specifically on Homewood, Jordan, Willobrook and Spinnaker.

A similar box of candy was also reported in the North Palmerston area. That box of candy was empty when opened.

The police department recommends that parents check all of the candy their children received from trick-or-treating and to contact the police department if they find something suspicious.
