STREETSBORO -- The Heidelberg Spectral Domain OCT is on the cutting edge of Opthalmology and able to give doctors a 3-D image of changes in the eye long before you see a difference in vision.
"The beauty of this technology is that we're capable of picking up these early precursors that we would have never been able to see before," says Dr. Douglas Ripkin of Ripkin Vision and Laser Center.
Especially in diseases like Glaucoma and Age Related Macular Degeneration. One in four men over 75 and nearly a third of women will develop macular degeneration. This device may detect it a decade earlier and alert patients to consider lifestyle changes.
"If they're in high risk category, patients are actually able to start taking vitamin supplements and avoid ultra violet exposure from the sun, both of which we've been to be significant factors," Dr. Ripkin says.
