River Sweep 2013
Ohio Canal Corridor celebrates 24 years of Ohio's largest done-in-a-day cleanup effort. This year the event will be held on Saturday, May 11th from 9 am until noon - volunteers receive gloves and bags. First 1,000 volunteers to sign up will receive a commemorative Riversweep t-shirt designed by George Cogill. Sites include: The Flats East, The Flats West, Canal Basin, Morgana Run, Train Avenue, Tremont, West Creek Conservancy, Big Creek/Lower Harvard, and Millcreek.
Marathon Race
Volunteers needed to assist with The Rite Aid Cleveland 5K in downtown Cleveland May 16-19th. Volunteer on Expo days at the IX Center May 16, 2-6pm, May 17, 10:30am-3pm & 2:30-7pm and May 18, 9:30am-2pm & 1:30-6pm, to distribute t-shirts and packets; volunteers will receive a parking pass as well as refreshments and a complimentary t-shirt. Or volunteer on Race Day, May 19th; course volunteers include water stops, food and medal distribution, massage, gear check & more, arrive at Browns Stadium May 19th 6am and report to assigned locations by 7:30 am, other duties available until 3pm.
Spring Dance
Join New Avenues to Independence, an organization which serves people with disabilities, to make their Spring Dance spectacular by helping as a volunteer. Assist at the dance with food or music and/or dancing and hanging out with the individuals served by New Avenues. May 17, 5:30-9pm.
Teach Junior Achievement Programs
Junior Achievement of Greater Cleveland is looking for volunteers to teach Junior Achievement programs for the morning (3-4 hours) at Thomas Jefferson International Newcomers Academy. The JA programs focus on basic economics and the importance of education for their future careers. They also teach financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship. Volunteers are needed for grades K-6; all lesson plans and materials will be provided, as well as breakfast and lunch! New volunteers receive an hour-long orientation and a kit of materials and lesson plans and have the opportunity to ask questions of Junior Achievement staff. By the end of the orientation, you'll be ready to teach the Junior Achievement program at the Blitz Day! May 17, 8am-1pm.
Day Out With Thomas
Day Out with Thomas is rapidly approaching and The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is in need of over 100 volunteers each day to make it a success. Event dates are May 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26, 8:30 am to 1:15 pm or 12:45 pm to 5:30 pm. Day Out with Thomas is held at Boston Mills Ski Resort at the south end of the parking area. There are numerous volunteer opportunities from Storytelling, site assistants, boarding assistants, tattoo tables, etc. Everyone welcome! Volunteers under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Water Stop Booth Attendant
Claire's Crusade has the opportunity to sponsor a water stop along the Cleveland Marathon course during the 10K, Half and Full Marathon races held in downtown Cleveland on Sunday, May 19, 2013. Energetic, enthusiastic and personable volunteers who are willing and able to stand outdoors for lengthy periods, walk considerable distances, cheer on race participants and help keep them hydrated are needed to attend a water stop. Help increase awareness of Rett Syndrome, a rare and devastating neurodevelopmental disorder, while cheering on Marathon participants. Volunteers receive t-shirt and wrist band. A shuttle available for interested volunteers leaving Independence, heading downtown and then returning to Independence post-race.
Annual Sugar Bush Golf Classic
Hattie Larlham, in support of children and adults with disabilities, needs volunteers to assist at annual shotgun-style golf tournament on May 22nd. Help is needed with contests such as Guess Your Drive, Hit the Circle and Hole-in-One. Beverages, snacks, meals and breaks will be provided to volunteers throughout the day. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old. Morning shift is 6:30am-1pm, afternoon shift is 12:15-6:30pm.
E 200th Street Stroll
Volunteers are needed Saturday, June 1st from 10am - 2pm for the 7th annual E. 200th Street Stroll, a celebration of great businesses and recognition of the helpful community organizations on E. 200th Street. Volunteer opportunities include: information table attendants and event bracelet sales for rides. Volunteers are asked to attend an orientation dinner prior to event. Information tables are equipped with table, chairs, shade structure and bottled water.

Share Your Artistic Flair
Share your creativity with people with developmental disabilities at Koinonia's day support program in Independence. Koinonia is looking for volunteers that can guide individuals in art and craft projects that are appropriate for participant's skill levels. Patience, flexibility and creativity are important for this volunteer opportunity. Materials are supplied. Flexible hours on weekdays for an hour a week (or more) between the hours of 9am and 2 pm. Experience teaching others a plus.
Farmers Markets - Produce Distribution
For five months this year (June - October) Lakewood Community Services Center (LCSC) is the site of a monthly Farmer's Market made possible by the Cleveland Foodbank. On the first Tuesday of each month, from 9:30am-1:30pm, a team of volunteers is needed to help distribute 10,000 lbs. of produce delivered to the back parking lot. Farmer's Markets are held rain or shine, and it is held outdoors, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
Pianist
Do you love to play the piano or another instrument? Do you love to make people smile? Then The Weils: A Montefiore Senior Living Community needs you! Volunteer pianists are needed to come share the joy of music with the residents of our 7-suite memory care wing. Flexible hours between 10am and 7pm including lunch (noon) and dinner (5pm).
Application, formal interview, 2 references, an orientation and a TB test (performed here at the Weils at no charge to you) are required.
Licensed Hairdresser Volunteer
Hospice of the Western Reserve needs licensed Hairdressers are needed donate their services to cut hair for hospice and chronically ill patients in their homes, independent and assisted living facilities throughout northern Ohio, or at one of two free-standing hospice inpatient facilities in Cleveland and Westlake. The volunteer must hold a current Cosmetology License and attend a four-hour volunteer education class. These sessions are offered around northern Ohio on varying days/times. Class can also be conducted at a salon for three or more hairdressers.
