Date Specific Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed to assist with benefit for Gina DeJesus, Amanda Berry and Michelle Knight on May 23 4:30-9:00pm at LaVilla Event Center at 11500 Brookpark Rd, Cleveland, OH. Volunteers arrive between 4-4:45 pm. Training session at 4:45 pm and volunteers to be in place by 5:15 pm. Volunteers will assist with: registration, raffle ticket sellers, drink ticket sellers, silent & chinese auction, and hospitality. Each volunteer will receive a t-shirt and food and drink.
Health & Fitness Expo Assistance
Volunteers are needed to assist with Bib and T-shirt distribution, Ask Me Team, Official Merchandise Store assistance and Solutions at the 2013 Health and Fitness Expo for the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon will be at the I-X Center. Shifts are as follows: Thursday, May 16, 2pm - 6pm. Friday, May 17; Shift 1: 11am - 3pm (arrive at 10:30am; Shift 2: 3pm - 7pm (arrive 2:30pm). Saturday, May 18; Shift 1: 10am - 2pm (arrive 9:30am; Shift 2: 2pm - 6pm (arrive 1:30pm). Volunteers will receive a parking pass as well as refreshments and a complimentary t-shirt.
Help restore Cuyahoga Valley National Park's native habitat by planting trees, removing invasive plants, or picking up trash. Choose between the morning and afternoon shift (10 a.m. - noon or 1 - 3 p.m.) - or spend the full day! This is a family-friendly project for ages 10 and older. Groups welcome. No special requirements. Volunteers must be able to hike 1 - 2 miles.
The Dobama Theatre in Cleveland Heights is in need of ushers for the 5th and final mainstage production for the season, The Lyons, which runs through Sunday, May 19, 2013. Ushers will be allowed to find a seat and watch the entire show if seats are available or receive a complimentary ticket for another show. Dress: any combination of black and white.
14-week program that teaches young people to set and achieve goals culminates in running the Cleveland Marathon. Volunteers are needed May 19, 8am-2:30pm to register students , distribute t-shirts and goody bags, help with refreshment/lunch service, runners/pacers for the ½ marathon, 10k or 1.2 race with the youth, traffic control (keep students on race route), cheering and water stops. Application and background check required.
Lake Metroparks Farmpark Farmers Market
Lake Metropark's Farmers Markets runs every Wednesday from May 22- Oct 16, 2013.
Be a part of this career building opportunity Wednesdays only from 1:30-7pm. Must be able to lift 30 lbs., work with the general public and make change. Upcoming dates: May 22, May 29 and Jun 05, 1:00 - 5:00pm.
The 9th annual PAWS 4 a Cause will be held on Sat. June 1, 2013, 9am-3pm at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field in Moreland Hills. Over 25 area animal rescues will attend along with as many merchandise vendors. Volunteers are needed Friday evening, May 31, 5 or 6pm until dark to load trucks at storage unit and unload trucks at polo field, set up tents, tables, tarps, signs. Event day, Saturday, June 1st, 7-9am for last minute setup, 9am-3pm for dog walk "guides", food/merchandise vendor, raffle sales, and dog contests and agility course and 3-5pm for event tear down. Must be dependable and preferably over 18.
The Senior Games
The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is looking for dedicated individuals who will volunteer for the 2013 National Senior Games to assist with ensuring successful events. Be a part of an event that will be the largest participatory sporting event in the United States in 2013 and is expected to bring $35 million dollars of economic impact to the Greater Cleveland area. The 2013 Summer National Senior Games presented by Humana will host 14,000 athletes 50 years of age and older who will compete in 19 different sports. Many opportunities form check-in to every aspect of assisting with each sporting event. The event will take place July 19-August 1, 2013, 7am-7pm. There will be a training session our volunteers will be required to attend about a month out from the event.

Summer Reading Tutors
St. Malachi Center needs Reading Buddies for Summer Camp. Reading Buddies are Reading Tutors that work individually with students grades K-5 one day a week. The Summer Camp Runs June 24th- August 1st Monday-Thursday each week. Reading Buddies are needed one day a week from 11am-12pm. Other openings may be available if this time slot does not work for your schedule. BCI background check required.
Berea Animal Rescue Fund is looking for volunteers to help take care of rescued felines in the morning. This is a cleaning shift, which involves cleaning of cat cages, laundry, and general, light cleaning (sweeping and straightening up) of cat building (cats are currently housed in a large trailer). Volunteer cleaners save the shelter a tremendous amount of money annually and are greatly appreciated. These shelter animals depend on reliable volunteers committed to their cause. Volunteers should be comfortable working around cats and be willing and able to follow safety and sanitation guidelines.
Games & Activities Leader
Interact with a small group of Senior Citizens at Judson Park, an Assisted Living Residential Community in University Circle by: Playing cards, board or word games; or if you're musically inclined, by leading a sing-along or performing music using Judson's piano or your own instrument; or assisting with arts and crafts. Volunteers may lead a group after first gaining experience by assisting Recreation staff with activities. Orientation, tour, and training provided. 14- 17 years of age are Junior Volunteers; 18 years and older are Adult Volunteers. We do not accept volunteers less than 14 years old unless with adult supervision.
Summer Mobile Pantry Volunteers
The Centers hosts 21 markets during the summer to give out free produce to people in need. Engaging, active volunteers are needed to distribute produce, coordinate registration, juggle, face paint and provide helpful hints on how to cook the produce. Volunteer groups are needed at various locations in the Cleveland-Akron area. Must be willing to lift boxes and stand for up to 4 hours. Times vary and locations will be provided after confirmation.
Neighborhood Alliance in Elyria has opportunities available for outdoor clean-up projects including weeding and brush removal at various service sites. Inside jobs to include painting/refreshing hallways, classrooms, and group spaces. As we head into the warmer months, a little spring cleaning will help maintain the outdoor spaces around our centers. Interior projects will help to brighten up the spaces in our homeless shelter and childcare centers. These opportunities are available on an occasional basis. All are physically demanding tasks. Volunteers must have own transportation. Groups of students must have adult leaders.
Teach Junior Achievement Programs
Junior Achievement is looking for volunteers to teach Junior Achievement programs for the morning (3-4 hours) at Thomas Jefferson International Newcomers Academy. The Junior Achievement programs focus on basic economics and the importance of education for their future careers. They also teach financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship. We're looking for volunteers for grades K-6; all lesson plans and materials will be provided, as well as breakfast and lunch! Orientation including lesson plans/materials and training provided.
