KENT -- In a Wednesday morning press conference, it was announced that Kent State head football coach Darrell Hazell has accepted the Purdue University head coaching job.

Purdue has given Hazell permission to coach the Golden Flashes in the Jan. 6 bowl against Arkansas State but that Kent State officials must still agree to allow him to coach that game.

Hazell replaces Danny Hope, fired after going 22-27 in four years with the Purdue Boilermakers.

Under Hazell, Kent State reached No. 17 in the BCS standings, the best in school history, before losing to Northern Illinois 44-37 in double overtime in the MAC Championship game.

The Golden Flashes ended the regular season ranked No. 25 in the BCS standings.
