AVON LAKE -- FirstEnergy has restored power to thousands of customers in Avon and Avon Lake after a power outage.
According to the company's website, approximately 8,800 people were impacted Thursday around 5:00 p.m.
The fire department says the outage started in the area of Walker Road and state Route 83 where a major power line came down. Energy subsequently shutdown a substation that served thousands.
At 6 p.m., FirstEnergy said that 80 percent of customers had their power restored. The remaining customers. The remaining customers had the power restored an hour later.
