Grafton Township: Fatal crash victim identified

GRAFTON TOWNSHIP -- The Ohio Department of Transportation tells Channel 3 that the intersection of State Route 83 and State Route 303 in Grafton Township is closed due to a crash.

The detour for drivers is east on SR 303 to State Route 252, south on SR 252 to State Route 18, west on SR 18 to SR 83 and reverse for north westbound motorists.

Law enforcement on the scene tell a Channel 3 News videographer that a woman driver crossed left of center and collided with a semi-tractor trailer truck.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the truck driver was shaken up and taken to the hospital to be checked. No estimate has been given as to when the intersection will reopen.

Mid-afternoon Tuesday, the State Highway Patrol identified the victim.

The Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred today in Grafton Township at 9:27 a.m.

The crash occurred on State Route 83 between State Route 303 and Law Road.

Christopher M. Raatz, 52, of  Louisville, Kentucky, was driving northbound on State Route 83 in a 2012 Freightliner semi.

Kimberly A. Blackley, 37, of Hilliard, was driving southbound on State Route 83 in a 2012 Honda Accord. The Blackley vehicle travelled left of center for an unknown reason and was struck by the Raatz vehicle.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and had to be towed from the scene.

Raatz was taken to Medina Hospital by Grafton Township EMS for minor injuries. Blackley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lorain County Coroner's Office.

Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
